Slovakia and Hungary Push for EU Gas Supply Resumption

Slovakia and Hungary continue to pressure the European Union with the aim of restoring gas supplies through the main gas pipeline. Supplies of Russian gas through Ukraine were suspended on the first of January due to the expiration of the transit agreement and Kyiv's refusal to discuss its extension due to the ongoing war.

The Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs stated on Monday that they received assurances from the European Commission concerning the protection of their energy supplies. At the same time, the Kremlin declared on Tuesday that Russia is interested in restoring gas supplies through Ukraine after the European Commission announced plans to continue negotiations with Kyiv regarding the supply of natural gas to Europe.
